Selah Cottage
A private cottage in the Sierra Nevada foothills
The property is NOT a rental. It is for use at the invitation of the owners
Update: As of the end of July 2022, we've sold this lovely property. We hope the new owners enjoy the home, and pray it will be a peaceful retreat.
Owners Mike and Alene bought the property in 2018 as a personal retreat, but with the desire to share the cottage with family and friends, and others in need of an occasional quiet get-a-way.
The cottage was originally built in 1964, but was fully renovated in 2014, to "new build" condition.
(**Note: due to the large snowstorm in Dec 2021, we had several trees down on the property and across the driveway. The access is clear, but you may still see the remains of several cleared trees along the way)
Located in Amador county in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada east of Jackson, CA, Selah Cottage is on a peaceful 1.25 acres in the beauty of tall pines. A short drive off Highway 88, the last 3/4 mile is an occasionally steep dirt and gravel road, but don't let that deter you. At the end of the road you'll find a quaint and comfortable home.
Selah Cottage is 850 sq ft on two levels.
On the main level, the kitchen is complete with dishes, utensils, many common spices and cooking needs, a full sized oven and cooktop, microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator, coffee maker, and blender.
The living room has a comfortable loveseat recliner with USB power ports for your phone charging needs, and a wood stove for heat. We have a supply of wood in the wood shed on the property, and try to keep a supply of kindling and split wood available. (If you are so inclined, there is an axe in the shed with which to split wood for kindling. BE CAREFUL)
On the main level are two bedrooms, each with a standard king sized bed.
The main level bathroom has a shower/tub combo, with radiant floor heating for warm feet on those chilly mornings.
To get downstairs, exit the front door and take the outdoor stairs to the lower level deck. There you'll find radiant floor heating, a comfortable recliner and futon, and a Roku TV with Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and a DVD player. There are several games available, and a small library of books in one of the alcoves. No live or satellite TV.
Your cellular service will probably not work at the property but the house features Wi-Fi throughout. Although its not the fastest speeds available (about 10mbps), it is sufficient for Wi-Fi calling on your cellphone, the Roku TV, and checking your email or social media.
There is a land-line phone available in the living room, if needed, or for an emergency contact if you must keep in touch with a family member. 209-295-8821.
Several chairs are in the shed, some of which are "zero gravity" chairs, perfect for reclining and watching the stars at night.
Our hope is that you can feel at home, still in reach of technology and information if you need it, yet feel free to unplug a little bit and enjoy the woods and stars at night.
